More Than Just Odour Control |

The Little River Pond Mill® circulator (LRPM) is a liquid composting machine
(biogeochemical remediation facilitator) with an optimum flow rate of 9 m3/s
(more than 7 million Imperial gallons per hour) and introduces large amounts of
circulated oxygen
into a liquid composting system. When composting manure/sewage, municipal waste
water,
or other organic substances, if done correctly offensive odours are not
produced. This unique and first of its kind circulator will correctly liquid compost the manure/sewage/waste
water and
promote odour control and so much more. The machine circulates the organic
liquid such that microorganisms, which utilize the carbon and other nutrients in
the manure/sewage/waste
water (or other organic materials), have enough oxygen and food
to proliferate. With adequate oxygen, the microbes are able to break the organic
material down without the production of offensive odours or potentially
dangerous gases.
The Little River Pond Mill® circulator, aside from promoting odour control, will benefit your livestock,
municipal
or waste water lagoon in the following ways...
- promote conversion of ammonia to ammonium thereby reducing nitrogen losses
to the atmosphere.
- promote conversion of nitrogen into plant available forms. Besides
promoting the conversion of ammonia to ammonium (a plant available nitrogen
form), the machine can promote the aerobic conversion of ammonium to nitrate
(another plant available nitrogen form). This process is known as
nitrification. By keeping the solution aerobic, the machine is able to prevent
nitrogen losses to the atmosphere and provide valuable nitrogen for addition
to fields and pastures. The microbes responsible for the
conversion process may also temporarily 'hold' some nitrogen in their bodies
in an organic form.
- promote conversion of sulfur into a plant available form. The introduction
of oxygen promotes the conversion of volatile sulfur in manure,
sewage and waste water
(or other organic solutions) to stable sulfur thereby decreasing sulfur losses
to the atmosphere and keeping them in the nutrient solution where they can aid
in plant growth once applied to the land. Reducing sulfur losses to the
atmosphere aids in decreasing acid rainfall in affected areas and in reducing
sulfurous emissions that may be harmful to our atmosphere.
- create a homogenous nutrient solution. The tremendous flow of the Little
River Pond Mill® circulator is
able to promote a complete mixing of the lagoon making it homogenous (the same
throughout). Once the microbes have broken down the manure,
sewage or waste water into
a nutrient solution it can easily be measured with one sampling to assist with
a nutrient management plan and it can easily be pumped out without the use and
expense of mixing/slurry equipment.
- promote oxidation reactions. The Little River Pond Mill®
circulator promotes oxygenation of the liquid
(i.e. manure, sewage or waste
water) that in turn promotes oxidation reactions. Oxidation
reactions can be quite beneficial; they can oxidize iron in water or promote
excess phosphorus in water to bind to other substances and assist both
elements in precipitating out to the bottom thus improving the water quality.
- provide farmers with a saleable commodity. The liquid nutrient solution is
saleable since it is easy to handle and its odour is not offensive. The
resulting reduction in greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere that the
Little River Pond Mill® circulator promotes provides potentially saleable carbon credits (for reducing
nitrogen, methane, etc. gaseous emissions to the atmosphere;via
significant reductions in energy consumption).
- low power usage when compared with other circulators and aerators. The
relatively low power usage that is observed with the Little River Pond Mill®
circulator is an added bonus
with the ever-increasing cost of electrical power. The electrical models
may
be operated on solar energy using a shore mount framework
or we have a solar model with solar mounted directly on the unit.
-
improve the output of
anaerobic digesters with improved circulation using a Little River
Pond Mill® circulator.
