Greenhouse Gas Reduction & Kyoto |
 |
|
With Canada's ratification of the Kyoto agreement, and in the process joining
many other countries in the race to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to the
atmosphere, you can assist with these goals through utilization of Kyoto
friendly practices. Kyoto friendly practices can assist with a
producer's, individual, company owner, or community’s goal in reducing overall green house
gas emissions to the atmosphere and improving the eco-economic viability of the
production facility, company or
community in the process. This can be achieved
directly through reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and/or indirectly through
a reduction in energy consumption.
Sunset Solar Systems Ltd. and Dagaz Environmental
Inc. have been promoting a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions for
26 years through the proper use of circulators (biostimulators).
Aerobic digestion of liquid municipal, commercial,
industrial and
livestock waste/effluent through use of the Little River Pond Mill® circulator
has the potential to significantly
reduce or eliminate methane, nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide emissions
(greenhouse gases) to the atmosphere, reduce or eliminate other potentially
harmful gaseous emissions to the atmosphere such as ammonia and hydrogen
sulfide, as well as reduce energy consumption through this efficient circulation
technology that promotes re-aeration at the atmosphere-liquid
interface (air-water).
Many systems presently on the market that are used for
aerating municipal and commercial
or industrial
waste waters and liquid livestock waste consume large
quantities of electrical energy by forcing air into water.
This method of aeration is very inefficient and at the most only 40% efficient
for oxygen transfer efficiency. Reaeration at the air-water interface is upwards
of 99% efficient for oxygen transfer - this is the process that circulators
utilize. It's not uncommon when using the LRPM
Aerobic Remediation System to reduce overall energy consumption by upwards of
90% while at the same time increasing aerobic digestion efficiency.
Its not uncommon for our installations to save
the customer tens of thousands of dollars annually on reduced electrical costs whether it be in livestock
operations, industrial, commercial or municipal applications, etc. So besides
the financial benefits, there are numerous Kyoto and greenhouse gas benefits
which are observed. Stagnant waters and waste waters frequently emit nitrogen
gases, sulfur gases, methane and excess carbon to the atmosphere. By remediation
of those environments, you can potentially eliminate the greenhouse gas
emissions and the acid rain gas emissions, reduce energy consumption and promote
a healthier environment.
Some municipal systems have
eliminated costly to purchase and maintain and energy inefficient
aeration systems through installation of Little River Pond
Mill® circulators while others have
significantly reduced their operation costs. The circulators have either
eliminated or significantly reduced the requirement for additional and
costly aeration equipment and at times delayed the requirement for
upgrades as a result of reduced capacity or increased demand. Through
installation of an oxygen detection meter, which then only turns on the
aeration equipment if the oxygen value of the system falls below a set
level, e.g. 2 mg/L (ppm), significant annual reductions in electrical
consumption have been observed (upwards of $70,000.00+ in financial
savings, reduced emissions to the atmosphere through reduced electrical
consumption and through biological attenuation of carbon, sulfur and
nitrogen). This same process is easily utilized within other industrial
(oil & gas, mining), commercial (food processing) and municipal
applications.
Little River Pond
Mill® circulators can also be used to
increase the efficiency of anaerobic digesters. Contact us for further
