The Key to a Cleaner Environment |

Introduction
The LRPM (Little River Pond Mill®
circulator) is an economical and environmentally safe biogeochemical
cycle remediation facilitator for
use in surface waters, wastewaters,
and liquid sewage (effluent).
The method of "aeration by circulation" with the Little River Pond
Mill® circulator promotes a simple,
and yet complex, natural and yet inexpensive,
processing method that assists 'Mother Nature'
in cleaning up surface waters and waste waters by
enhancing the naturally occurring aquatic life cycle
processes - all in this new age of high
technology.
One of the main concepts that the company has been promoting
from the start is the idea of
enhancing biological diversity through the use of
the Little River Pond Mill® circulators which promote accelerated
biogeochemical cycling and the elimination of
stagnant aquatic environments.
Patented design
The patented design characteristics of the Little River Pond Mill®
circulators are very unique.
From the corrosive resistant, rotomolded,
polyethylene pontoons of the Enviro 200 and 600
series models, the unique aerodynamic design of the rotomolded
polyethylene body of the Enviro 700 series, the adjustable swing tail which is
up and out of the wind shadow, the highly efficient
turbine that smoothly pivots out of
excessively high velocity winds,
the new rotational pontoon design for improved efficiency, to the watertight
drive shaft which turns a submerged impeller
50 cm (20 inches) below the water surface
to form an upward re-circulating toroidal vortex
that resembles a twister (tornado) - all machine
features have been specially designed for optimum performance.
Due to the vortex and circulation, liquid (water
or waste water) from as deep as 14 metres
(46 feet)
or more is brought to the surface. Thermal layers may become destratified,
and oxygen is dissolved into the water and circulated throughout the
pond, lake, reservoir, sewage lagoon, or wastewater lagoon. In a 24 km/h
(15 mph) wind, water is being
re-circulated at a
rate of 9 m3/s (J. D. Bugg, 1996) or 7.1 million
Imperial g/h. The sun's
ultra-violet rays, oxygen, chemical interactions, and microorganisms,
all begin the break down process of organic matter and other substances.
Decomposition, to be virtually odourless and complete, must go through aerobic
digestion processes. The entire cycling process that
the Little River Pond Mill® circulator is promoting is known as
biogeochemical cycling. The Little River Pond Mill® circulator, in
both renewable energy sources (wind
and
solar) and energy efficient electric
(1/2 hp.) powered models, supplies the mechanics for this vital
process at thousands of sites every day.
A Remediation System for
Most Applications
Little River Pond Mill® circulators
provide a unique processing technology and
have been sold for remediation of surface water supplies since the
Company began its operation in 1983. There are thousands of machines in
operation on potable water supplies and recreational facilities
globally. They are being used for reversal of eutrophication, odour
control, control of algae, coliform bacteria and other nuisance aquatic life, and to
increase the oxygen content of the water to sustain fish populations and
other aquatic species. As an aerator for fish and shrimp/prawn ponds, where an
oxygen level of 5-8 ppm is ideal, a Little River Pond Mill® circulator
remediation system can maintain this level with ease when the system has
been properly assessed for the various variables that
need to be addressed.
Algae growth is an on-going, desired and natural process,
however in many eutrophied aquatic environments, it can be a major pest problem
- too much of a good thing. A quick
chemical kill of algae can cause a kill-off of aquatic life and
microorganisms that consume the algae and detritus (including
sludge) and utilize the nutrients
thereby temporarily destroying the natural and
delicate balance that exists in aquatic ecosystems. The algae may start to show re-growth
quickly, but
much aquatic life may take a significantly longer period of time
depending on the damage. A Little River Pond Mill® circulator remediation system,
acting as the mechanics, can provide an environment that will control
algae and other nuisance aquatic plants without the
use of poisonous chemicals - ideal for the
organic producer.
In livestock sewage lagoons the Little River Pond Mill®
circulator will aerate, circulate, and destratify the liquid sewage
promoting a reduction in offensive odours. VFA's (volatile fatty
acids) have been shown to be a good indicator of offensive odour and in
a test conducted in Central Canada it was shown that after 90 days with
the Little River Pond Mill® circulator in the test lagoon, the average
level of VFA's was only 113 mg/L, which is well below the 230 mg/L
considered as having an offensive odour; the control lagoon measured
6,904 mg/L (M. R. Toombs, 1997).
This unique processing technology,
developed by Sunset Solar Systems Ltd. in the
early 1980's, has been sold for reducing
odours, solids, BOD, COD and other pollution
indicators in most types of effluent and
wastewater lagoons and ponds since
the mid to late 1980's.
With upwards of a thousand or more machines being utilized globally for
waste water treatment - the first
installations were on a hog effluent earthen manure
storage facility. We presently have installations for
remediation of hydrocarbons in the oil and gas industry, winery waste,
municipal sewage (public and private), livestock sewage, commercial food
processing waste water (livestock and vegetable), and many others. Little River Pond Mill® circulator's work great
for control of odours, reduction of biological oxygen demand (BOD),
chemical oxygen demand (COD), and
total suspended solids (TSS), for increasing dissolved oxygen (DO), and
for assisting in the mineralization and stabilization of nutrients.

Wind , Solar, and
Electric Models
All models are economical and environmentally
friendly. The low energy requirement, 1/2 hsp motor of the electric
models, and renewable energy (wind or solar), of the Little River Pond Mill®
circulators is typically significantly less than the
energy requirement of most circulators, mixers and aeration
systems on the market today. All Little River Pond Mill®
circulator models have special design
features that promote high circulation efficiency with low energy
input. We have been promoting reducing greenhouse gas emissions for
upwards of 24 years!
What to think about when purchasing
When considering the purchase of a Little River Pond Mill®

- hours of sunlight
- hours of annual cloud cover
- moisture
- topography
- geological variations
- soil
- bedrock
- movement,...
